Restoring form, function and confidence after mandibulectomy — using fibula free-flap and advanced microvascular techniques.
Understanding the Procedure
Jaw reconstruction (mandibular reconstruction) restores the lower jaw after removal due to cancer, trauma, or infection. It is one of the most complex procedures in head and neck surgery.
Dr. Narayana specialises in fibula free-flap reconstruction — transplanting a segment of the fibula bone along with its blood supply to recreate the jaw, followed by dental implants for full oral rehabilitation.
Reconstruction Techniques
Gold standard for jaw reconstruction. A segment of fibula bone with its blood supply is transplanted to recreate the mandible with excellent long-term results.
Zygomatic implants are placed in the cheek to allow attachment to the dentureand priovide a new set of teeth, compatible with radiotherapy.
Used when fibula is not available. Provides excellent soft tissue bulk alongside bone for complex composite defects.
Placed into the reconstructed fibula after healing, restoring chewing function and completing the oral rehabilitation process.
